Career Overview
Aerospace Engineers work in one of the most technologically advanced branches of engineering. Aerospace engineers create and design machines that are used airborne, including aircraft, missiles, satellites, rockets, spacecrafts and anything that flies. Besides this, they are also involved in researching new materials, engines, body shapes and structures. This job is not just about science, it’s also about creativity. You will not only give wings to your imagination but also make it fly. The products that they come up with are used in aviation, in the military (missiles) and in space exploration. This particular field is considered one of the most technical fields of engineering. One must have a genuine interest in mathematics, physics and mechanics. It is also a very dynamic and demanding field that is characterized by rapid growth.
How to Become an Aerospace Engineer
In India several technological universities including the IIT’s offer courses in aeronautical engineering both at undergraduate and post graduate level. The basic eligibility criteria for BE / B.Tech program is 10+2 (with Physics, Chemistry and Maths) or equivalent examination with a fairly high percentage of marks in the aggregate. One must pass the qualifying exam i.e. IIT JEE for admission into Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT’s). For M.Tech program in aeronautical engineering one should have completed degree in (BE / BTech) aeronautical engineering or any other equivalent branches of engineering. Job Opportunities :
It is predicted that the demand for this career is bound to fall in the coming years. This is as a result of few people in this career retiring as opposed to those graduating into the field. The advantage though is that the skills acquired in this course can be applied in other related engineering careers like motor manufacturing.
